SHITO RYU SHUKOKAI KARATE DO UNION USA
December 2007

As I write this, it is hard to believe that another year is just about pass by!  I am sure this is simply because we are so busy
and much of our time is spent on our daily routine work.  As a result, we sometimes fail to appreciate for those people who
have supported us.

At this time of the year, I can help but thank all those students, parents and family who choose our karate programs and
allow us to make our classes a second home for  many children.  Knowing that our karate school is located in one of the most
competitive areas in St. Louis makes us especially proud to have played a part in helping on develop the next generation.

The Mid-County YMCA Karate School has made great advances this past year.  To begin with, our first SUMMER CAMP was
held in June 2007 was incredibly successful.  The response to the students' success was so great, that we were able to
acquire many new students that it resulted in a long waiting list.  We will probably be able to extend the summer camp next
year, which will enable us to offer everyone an opportunity to experience our unique programs.

Another huge event was the first national seminar & WKF referee's seminar that was held in St. Louis in November 2007.
We invited one of the top certified WKF referees.  Through this event, we were able to update the KUMITE (fighting) rules.
Among those who participated, were a couple of young students who have shown great enthusiasm toward becoming leaders
of our association, which makes me very proud.

From the last promotional test in the end of November 2007, I am proud to announce that Matthew Graham, 10 and Jacob
Blythe, 11 received brown belt! It seems to me it was only yesterday when those small children first enrolled at class.
Time has quickly passed, and now these students shown their ability to achieve.  They have proved their determination to
everyone by earning this honor.  It is very true that the real winner is a person who has never quit.

At the SSU-USA general meeting in November 2007, a decision was made that the SSU-USA First National Karate
Tournament will be held in fall 2009!  In accordance with this decision, our karate training will focus on the development of
students' character, knowledge and skills in a healthy competitive atmosphere.  Every student has the opportunity to become
a member of a national youth competitive team.

Finally, I thank everyone for all of the support you have given us for this past year.  Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and
a Happy New Year!  I look forward to seeing you in 2008

All the best
Eric Tomlinson, Chief Instructor 6th Dan
